The best known animals in South Africa are elephants, lions, rhinos, leopard and buffalo. These animals call home to a wild and safe environment .
The Kruger National Park alone has over 10,000 elephants and 20,000 buffaloes and in 1920 there were an estimated 120 elephants left in the whole of South Africa. This means that this park has saved a lot of animals.
A white rhino has also been brought back from the verge of extinction and now lives both in the Kruger National Park and the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park in KwaZulu-Natal. A white rhino is unique because the rhino species is normally gray or black.
Now, employees are working on protecting the black rhino.
South Africa is home to 850 birds species and is visited by about 725 birds year round. In South Africa there are bird life ranges for the ostrich. An ostrich is a member of a group of birds called ratites which classifies flightless birds. This bird standing on his tall, bare legs and his long white neck and reach a height of 2.6 m and weigh 135 kg. It should not bother these birds that they can't fly because they can run!
A tract of pristine grassland can hold up to 60 grass species.
